XHTML Recommendations

March 20th, 2006

Whenever I search for information on CSS or XHTML, Google usually returns something from the W3C (the WWW Consortium) in the first five results.

There are a zillion recommendation documents on the W3C website, so I’m never really sure which one I’m looking at.

Here are the ones that are working for me right now:

CSS 2.1 Specification:
http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/

XHTML 1.1 – Module-based XHTML
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/

XHTML 1.0 The Extensible HyperText Markup Language
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/

Anybody else have good XHTML/CSS references?

Not sure if this is a reference or not and I have a feeling that this site is probably on your list, but Roger Johansson has written some good articles on the subject in my opinion.

Awesome - that is a great link, Nick. I have been to Roger's site before but I hadn't seen all those great resources.

My first reference is "Westciv":http://www.westciv.com/style_master/house/index.html. Their Complete CSS Guide is great, as is the Style Master podGuide. They also have downloadable self paced courses in standards based web design, and a Style Master CSS Tutorial.

Totally agree with you, Mike. WestCiv is a great place to learn CSS. Probably one of the best places to see many real-world examples and implementations of the separation-of-design-and-structure concept has got to be the CSS Zen Garden. It's not a technical resource, but rather a visual. It's been around awhile, so you've probably seen it, but it's good to go get lost in there every now and then again.

Mike and Chris... great links - thanks! I had not seen Westciv's CSS Guide yet, so that is a great find.
